Trapped Key Interlock Usage in Switchgear

January 15, 2018

A substation is a hazardous work environment in which regular maintenance and operations of electrical switchgear is performed. Trapped key interlocks are an integral part of switchgear applications and can prevent the paralleling of two energy sources, drive the pre-determined sequence of breaker operations, prevent the disconnect of breakers under load, and minimize the possibility of a hazardous arc flash. Trapped key interlocks within these maintenance and operational procedures are often part of a larger trapped key interlock safety system and when operated correctly, ensure you and your employees come home safely after a day at work.

Watch the animation below to learn how KIRK® trapped key interlocks protect you & your employees when performing maintenance on live equipment.
